Day 43
Well I have started off the day in good shape. There is some lateral hip discomfort but low level. . I used the cane a lot during the day and went to a meeting without the transfer chair. I found that I am not able to bear full weight and push off on the surgical leg. I can go up 1 step at a time but doing 1 step over the other produced a deep pain. Once last night as I was sitting on a sofa , which is relatively new, I moved and a bad pain popped up in the hip. Luckily it only lasted a couple of minutes.
So life is returning to wards normal even though there is along way to go. I assume that if my coumadin level is normal then I will be shifting from home care to the local clinic to monitor my blood levels.
I still have to use the transfer bench for showers but that's ok.
The whole point of this endeavor is to show the progression from a painful, difficult surgery to a return to normal life and what to expect along the way.
I found that I didn't have the ability to stand as long without discomfort. I am feeling a little more of a klunk with initial weight bearing. After sitting I am having to take small steps. The pain I experienced last night on the sofa, was repeated as I sat on the recliner. I absentmindedly tried to hook my surgical heel in front of the other foot and the rotation produced a sharp pain in the postero lateral hip region. Wow.
My Coumadin level remains 3.2 so is doing OK and they are preparing to shift my monitoring to the local clinic.
I will have to be wanded whenever I travel now but small price
