End of first full week PT
I can already see a difference. It is easier to move, less pain with movement, but still lurching when walking. I am very hopeful. Last week I did take pain meds 1 evening which was the first in weeks.
I still have to compensate when walking up stairs but that will take a little time

Week 1 of P/P PT
It is incredible how little muscle control I have in the right leg. Standing on the right leg and being able to hold in neutral is difficult.
In therapy I have been using the upright bike, shuttle for grav diminished WB, steps, beginning band for ER, diagonal glut med walking and today will try the alter G Tmill
Overall I feel it is not bad but will be slow. Yesterday I woke with pain and it didn't get better and remains today just in front of the greater trochanter.
It is hard when you don't know if this is a normal pain to be encountered with strengthening or not a good thing as a result of wires or bone love to walk without a lurch but can only do that with the cane.
I did take pain medicine last night and did NOT sleep at all

Day many more than last time ( around 88 )
I start PT tomorrow. The surgeon said that after the surgery I had I shouldn't be doing SLR or hip ABD until 3 months and maybe at 6 months I can do much more.
I tried 2 more hikes which necessitated a lot of cane usage. The problem is that I was awakened by the most god-awful burning of the median nerve from the armpit to the thumb and 3 fingers and couldn't find a position to alter it. Wow!!! Burnng, cold, numbness, and pain but if I was up with my arm by my side I was OK
Going upstairs is better but requires forethought to engage stabilizing muscles. Still not enough hip strength. Still walk with a limp but much less so.
It is painful to lie on my right side or sit in seats where the edge hits on my thigh. The doctor said that was right where he cut the bone. Oh boy

Day 81
Went to see the doc today. He gave me more info today than I had before so I know more what to expect.
When I told him I couldn't ABD until last week he said "that's good because you weren't supposed to until 3 months. He said the cane would become less and less once I got the ABD strong. He showed me a way to do it that I was unfamiliar with. One way I see a lot of therapists including myself doing it activates the ITB which we see all the time getting irritated after a posterior approach. We agreed that O/P PT would be a good thing now.
Approaching "normal" wouldn't happen for about another 3 months so I have some sort of target and expectation now.
I really think he was happy that this might just work for me and I am ecstatic not to have the same pain I had for 2 1/2 years after the 1st one.
He went to a Ortho Hip Society meeting and said research is coming back saying the curved anterior approach prostheses are not as good at distributing the force as they originally thought/hoped.
All in all I am happy

Day 75-80
I have been successful in sidelying ABD for 5 reps for the 1st time. I have tried hiking on fairly level ground for 1-2 miles which is OK until on the way back if the surgical limb is the up leg then the ability to maintain good strength is poor. By the time I got back to my car I had to manually lift the leg into the vehicle. It was sore but I did not take pain meds. I fell once but had the foresight and luck to come straight down and not twist the leg

Day 73
I am definitely getting around better but hip flexion, ABD, going up steps, walking without a Trendellenberg, and turning remain difficult. It is much worse bending and twisting my body to the right. I still lift my leg up into the car sometimes.
I had to let work know that I am nowhere near 100% as that is their stipulation so I am beginning to look at O/P positions. Being on level ground, having hi-lo tables, and having help all make my ability to return better.
The scar is very tender to touch behind and below the greater trochanter
It may be time for O/P PT
